GetTheData publishes pages explaining the location of places and postcode districts (outcodes) within the United Kingdom.

We use open data to create maps and narratives, which help position a place or postcode district within its immediate locality, and within the country generally.

You can find these pages by searching for a place or postcode district in the search box at the top of the page, or by drilling down by place or postcode district.

Places

A place is a settlement ranging from a small hamlet up to a large city. Our place pages contain maps and information relating to the location of the place, including:

  • The centremost postcode within the place

Postcode districts

A postcode district, or outcode, is the first part of a postcode - the part before the space. So the postcode district for SW1A 1AA is SW1A. The structure of a UK postcode is explained here.

• A list of places contained within the postcode district
• The nearest towns and cities

Postcode District Map

The Postcode District Map shows the position of the place within its postcode district, or outcode. The example below, selected at random, shows the position of Parsonage Green within the RG8 postcode district:
