About us
GetTheData is a publisher of property information for UK properties. Our data typically comes from official government sources, such as the Land Registry, or the Office for National Statistics. We use this data to create maps, charts, tables, and narratives, to help understand what information is available for a given property.
Our people
GetTheData is run by Dan Winchester. Dan is a seasoned web developer with extensive experience in the proptech sector, having founded one of the first property information websites, HousePrices.co.uk, in 2005. The site was acquired by Zoopla in 2010. Dan continued to work as a consultant for Zoopla after the acquisition.
Timeline
GetTheData was originally launched as ThingsToDoWithData, and was conceived of as a search engine based on datapoints. For example, searching for an X handle would bring back webpages with information about that X handle. Property information, including house prices, was explicitly excluded due to a ten year non-compete agreement between Zoopla and Dan Winchester. Over the years the website has seen a number of major changes, including the expiry of the non-compete and a subsequent move into property information.
